Normandy in France is littered with monuments, cemeteries and museums. The beautiful city of Bayeux, home of the famous tapestry of the Norman Conquest of 1066AD, has a small museum commemorating the D-Day invasion and the Battle of France.
We did a tour of the battlefields in Bayeux and did not go into the museum as we'd visited two on the tour. I did wander through the grounds though to photograph their tank collection. This is an American M10 tank destroyer. The M10 is based on the Sherman tank, but with a larger gun and additional side and frontal armour.
M10 and Churchill tank.
The Churchill tank was Britain's main battle tank in 1944.
German Panzer 38T Hetzer Jagdpanzer. The Hetzer was a small, compact tank hunter with a 75mm PAK, mounted on a Czech 38T chassis. Their small size and sloped armour gave them good protection. http://www.tanks-encyclopedia.com/ww2/nazi_germany/Jagdpanzer-38_Hetzer.php
The museum in close to the centre of town and a short walk from the cathedral. It's worth a visit. Bayeux itself is lovely. The cathedral is stunning and the Tapestry Museum is an absolute must see.
